“The biggest single problem with communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”

– George Bernard Shaw

Note: The next World Class Communications workshop with Marcus Sheridan will be held in Edinburgh on 6th & 7th November 2017. Registration now open.

As most would agree, the ability to communicate one’s thoughts clearly, and then move audiences and listeners to take action, is one of the greatest and most influential skills of the past 5,000 years.

Yet sadly, for the most part, it’s not taught in schools.

Furthermore, it’s rarely taught (on a deep level) in the workplace.

And because of this, great minds, and great ideas, often fall by the wayside—simply because they weren’t presented the right way, in the right light, and with the right end goal.

  • Speakers fail to achieve their potential on stage.
  • Presenters (and sales teams) fail to meet their goals when pitching an idea.
  • Co-workers fail to help their other team members catch their vision.
  • …and Family members struggle to reach, understand, and positively influence their loved ones.

Over the past 7 years, Marcus Sheridan has transitioned from “pool guy” to Internationally acclaimed professional speaker. And although he’s made waves teaching his business philosophies of “They Ask, You Answer” to over 400 audiences around the world during this time, his true passion is found in helping others reach their potential as teachers, communicators, and speakers.

It is for this reason CMA is now offering workshops on achieving true “World Class Communication” (WCC) with a three-fold purpose to help attendees become the greatest possible speakers and communicators they can be:

  1. On the Stage
  2. In the Boardroom
  3. In the Home

Yes, because great communication is essentially made up of principles that transcend speaking in front of an audience, Marcus Sheridan’s workshops are focused on pushing business professionals and executives to improve their ability to communicate, motivate, and inspire in all walks of life.

In the WCC Workshop, you will learn such communication principles as:

1. The power of “Yes, And”: As speakers and communicators, how do we overcome such distractions as random audience comments, AV failures, or poorly delivered humor? Well, we turn each one of these perceived “negative” moments into a positive, all by using the principle of Yes, And.

2. The power of Story: We all know that stories stick. They move audiences. They can have lasting impact. But unfortunately, most speakers don’t use them nearly enough. And when they do, they often fail to deliver. In WCC, Marcus will help you learn to design and tell stories that not only have a profound impact on your audience, but move them to take action as well.

3. Presentation Design: Many speakers and communicators can’t stand developing new presentations and speeches. Whether it’s a boardroom pitch, or a keynote to 500 people, how can you develop a presentation that will “stick” with audiences and leave them not just wanting more, but motivated to share your teachings with others? In WCC, Marcus will share with you how to create powerful presentations in literally minutes with a simple formula he has developed over the last decade of speaking and presenting.

4. The Columbus Principle: Everyone talks about “engagement” these days but more often than not, most speeches and presentations feel more like a college lecture hall than a conversation. It is for this reason Marcus has developed what he calls “The Columbus Principle”—or the process of using questions to not just engage your audience, but also help them to discover truths for themselves, without you telling it to them first. (And if they discover it for themselves, then they just might own it for themselves as well.) Even better, when understood on its deepest level, The Columbus Principle has a profound effect on our ability to talk with co-workers and family members so as to have more impactful and inspiring conversations.

5. Trust Techniques: As a speaker and communicator, you want to earn the trust of your audience fast. But how do you do it? And what are the habits that work for (and against) one’s ability to gain immediate trust? In this workshop, Marcus will discuss everything from how you carry your body, to your arm movements, to the way you use people’s names in an effort to help you win audiences over fast so as to have greater impact in the long run.

6. And much, much more… (Yes, WCC covers a lot, which is exactly why there isn’t any type of training like it in the world)

Generally, Marcus teaches the principles of WCC over the course of a 7 hour day, with the majority of attendees consisting of organisations who are looking to improve the communication of their executives, sales teams, and subject matter experts.

If your team is looking to take your communication skills to the next level, contact us here at CMA today to learn more.

The problems we solve…

Instead of giving a long pitch about why you should attend WCC with Marcus Sheridan, we have listed below the reasons why others have attended WCC.

We literally sat in the back of the workshop and wrote down the exact reasons why people attended WCC and the areas they wanted to improve on. Perhaps you can relate to a few of these challenges and problems:..

Improve presentation planning, structure and pacing

These are the kind of challenges you may be struggling with:

  • I cram too much into my speaking content
  • I feel underprepared when it comes to speaking
  • I go into too much detail
  • I’m guilty of over preparing for presentations and taking notes verbatim. I want to be able to present without notes or slides

Develop the way you speak and communicate with your audience

These are the kinds of challenges you may be frustrated with:

  • I lose track of the narrative when speaking and getting confused
  • I talk too fast when communicating and presenting
  • I waffle and I don’t know how to plan out my content for speaking
  • I feel like I ‘tell’ rather than ‘listen’ or ‘ask’
  • I feel like I can improve the kinds of words I use when I speak in public
  • My tone of voice is monotone, boring, and not inspirational

Increase your confidence and feel in control in front of any audience

These are the kinds of challenges you may be frustrated with:

  • I don’t feel confident about speaking in front of groups of people
  • I’m very nervous in front of people and I want to overcome this
  • I care far too much about what people think about me, which impacts how I engage with my audience and listen to them
  • I feel like an introvert. I hate standing up in front of people or being the centre of attention
  • I’m embarrassed about other people looking at me
  • I don’t like public speaking and I want to solve this
  • I don’t enjoy being out there, but I know that I NEED to be out there in order to be more successful at what I do
  • I can be tempted to take the ‘safe option’ when I’m asked to speak and fall into bad habits – I know I can be better

Improve how you engage with your audience

These are the kinds of challenges you may be frustrated with:

  • I struggle to effectively engage with the audience
  • I’d like to create a deeper connection with my audience and improve how I engage
  • I want to understand my audience better
  • I want to feel more confident getting my audience involved in my presentations

Challenging yourself and levelling up your speaking

  • I think I’m already really good at speaking, but I want to step outside my comfort zone and challenge myself
  • I feel like I’ve become complacent with my presentation style and I feel the need to freshen up
  • I want to be a really great speaker and communicator

Roger Edwards, Marketing Consultant and Speaker
“Marcus is one of the most powerful, engaging speakers I’ve ever seen. At the same time, he’s a humble, family man without a trace of ego. A true professional.”

What’s it really like at WCC?

In this episode of The Balance you will get a good feel for what WCC is all about. This was filmed at WCC in November 2016.

It’s a 12 minute video, with two very powerful stories about how to be a world class communicator.

Laura Lucas, Owner at Inspirential
“What I got from the workshop went way beyond speaking or business. Watching Marcus’s commitment to being completely present in service to his audience and choosing to ‘yes… and’ every moment of his life has inspired me to make a wholehearted commitment to do the same. For me that means choosing to show up as my best self and do everything in my power to make each moment the best it can possibly be regardless of what happened in the previous moment and letting go of the outcome in full faith that I can be who my audience (and clients, family, and friends) need me to be.”

Steve Cowan, Director at Upstream IT
“I’ve never encountered anyone like Marcus. When his gaze falls on you it’s like a tractor beam, drawing you in. You can’t look away. His passion for teaching the art of communication is plain to see and he is clearly knowledgable. Of course most speakers are knowledgeable in their chosen subject but you get the feeling Marcus eats, breathes and sleeps his. I’ve heard a few speakers in my time but I would put Marcus in pole position. His engaging style and energy cannot fail to impress and I look forward to further conferences and classes in the future.”
