The start of our development period…

Monday 6th May 2019 marks the start of a 3 week development period here at CMA.

Towards the end of 2018 we started planning out what 2019 would look like. As part of that planning process we marked out 2 periods in the year that would be ideal for us to focus on big internal development projects. May and September.

What this means is that we’ve reduced all daily/weekly tasks to an absolute minimum, there’s no calls, meetings or anything else scheduled that could take us away from focusing on the business.

Over the course of running CMA I have recognised the importance of planning, and I also know how quickly a year can pass.

We need to have times in the year to really focus on developing our business, and we recommend you do the same. It’s so easy to let each day, week and month run you, and we want to take that control back.

We agreed that we needed to mark out a few periods in the year where we can give 80% of our focus to the business.

We’ve got a lot of work planned in and we’re going to keep you up to date with what we’re doing right here on the Daily Log.

Monday 6th May

  • Nic and Chris have spent time planning out what the next few weeks look like – adding tasks and projects into our dedicated Basecamp project for the next 3 weeks
  • Nic and Chris recorded, edited and published a new ‘behind the scenes’ video for CMA Membership. This has then been added to landing pages and an email sequence for prospective members. (You can watch the video here)
  • Chris recorded a new promo video for our membership 90 Day Content Marketing Challenge (Watch the video here)
  • Nic prepared all the documentation, the application process and launched the next 90 Day Content Marketing Challenge. This has involved publishing the video on multiple platforms including our membership portal and announcing the challenge in our Facebook group and in our private Slack community. πŸ’ͺ Turn up and do the work

As much as you can choose to do what you love, it doesn’t mean you get to love all of it all the time. Sometimes you just have to do the right thing whether you feel like it or not.

There are certain things that we might not like, but they are necessary.

We all have our own strengths and weaknesses, and with a little self-awareness we can learn to lean on our strengths and ask for help for everything else.

What is it that gets us through the things we don’t like and the tougher moments? It’s the love and the passion for what we do.

You never know, with the right help you may learn to love even the things you don’t like.

What I know is this: you can’t rely on motivation showing up when you need to get things done.

You just have to keep turning up, move things forward, take responsibility and do the work.

🀯 We adore workshops

Thanks to the guests who joined us at today’s workshop in Dundee.

We always have a great time at workshops meeting new people and most importantly teaching. It’s a lot of fun😊

We saw many new faces, some familiar ones, and even teams join us.

Claire, an in-house marketer, and CMA member joined us at our last workshop for the first time and then again today along with her team to help encourage buy-in in her company. This was super cool to see and we’ll hear soon how that went for her.

At our workshops, we teach you how to communicate effectively with customers to increase sales and growth in your business.

If you would like to join us at our next workshop in July, book your place here.

🎧 Trust is everything: How to build trust quickly online

Trust is everything when it comes to content marketing.

It’s getting increasingly difficult to build trust with consumers and it’s up to you to put the work in to build that trust and build a relationship.

But, how can you build trust quickly when someone is discovering you for the first time?

In this episode, Chris discusses ways you can build that trust quickly through your content to gain an advantage over your competitors and get the best customers for your business.

Listen to this podcast episode here.

πŸŽ₯ Why do marketers keep leaving their job?

Did you know, compared to all other business functions, the marketing department has the highest rate of staff turnover?

Why do you think that is?

Whether you are a leader with marketing reports, or you ar thinking about developing the marketing function in your company, or you are a marketer…this is an interesting question to ask yourself and your team.

What will be interesting for all of us is what is said in the comments.

Let’s have an open mind here, and look at this question objectively…

Your challenge here is two-fold:

Firstly, consider the feedback from the question and rate you and your company on how well you perform in each area (1 = poor, 10 = excellent)

Secondly, based on that rating, what do you need to do to improve and develop the marketing function in your company and ultimately retain great people and their talent?

I’m looking forward to discussing the outcome with you in the comments πŸ™‚

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Family is everything

Hey, Nic here.

One of the great things about working for CMA is that Chris and Cara understand family.

Chris and Cara have a blended family together and I have a young family too.

To them it’s important that we all have the flexibility to look after our families and be flexible enough to be there for them and spend time with them.

Running a membership requires you to be available almost 24/7 (We do get sleep 😝) and we are working hard on the development of CMA which is requiring some extra effort to get there.

But if you need to drop out a day to look after the kids, pick them up from school, enjoy some time in the holidays with them. We can do that.

They recently invited the kids to Luna’s first birthday party with them and it was amazing to see them all getting on well and getting to know each other.

Cara has invited us up to the house in the summer holidays to play in the garden whilst we get stuck in to work but also enjoy the time with them too.

Chris and Cara take baby Luna to their speaking gigs where she heckles the shit out of them πŸ˜‚

On our 90 Day Challenge call last week we had some visitors from members families join in the calls and say hello during the Easter Holidays.

Family is something we hugely value at CMA. We believe you can have the best of both worlds.

We believe you can build a business where you can allow family be your No.1 priority.

I love that about CMA πŸ’™

🎧 New podcast: Why would someone NOT buy from you?

Chris loves this simple but powerful question.

When we are thinking about how we can get more customers for CMA, and helping other companies get better customers to grow their company, this one question helps to create strategic content that fills gaps in, and smooths out the sales process.

One of the reasons that this question is so powerful is because it specifically focuses on the prospects that are already in the sales process. In other words, by answering this question you are helping people that already want to buy from you, to buy faster and have a better and more confident all round buying experience.

In this episode Chris walks you though a short exercise of answering the question β€˜Why would someone NOT buy from you?’ and what to do with these new content ideas that you have.

If you are looking for some new content ideas to grow your business and get more customers, press play and get your notepad out.

πŸ’ͺ David vs Goliath

You know what a ‘David and Goliath’ situation is, right?

It’s when a smaller, weaker opponent beats a much larger and stronger competitor, in what seems to be an impossible situation.

I believe that there’s a similar opportunity for you with content marketing, where you can beat your competition even if the odds are stacked against you.

It’s not going to be easy, and there’s work to be done, but it’s going to be worth it.

The opportunity for you lies in the following places:

πŸ‘‰ Getting super specific with your content
πŸ‘‰ Becoming obsessed with your customers’ problems and questions
πŸ‘‰ Embracing They Ask You Answer & The Big 5
πŸ‘‰ Creating the very best version of that content that exists online today

We do not need any more general or mediocre content. Now more than ever your prospective customers need a resource they can trust to help them make an educated and confident buying decision.

Your challenge, should you accept it, is for that resource to be your website. For your website to be the ‘Wikipedia’ of your industry.

So, what’s it going to be?

Join CMA today and find out how you can beat your competition and become the ‘Wikipedia’ of your industry.
